"Family"

I had wanted to get a Christmas present for both my parents for a while when I got back into stitching. I found the pattern for this piece at the Knitting and Stitching Show the fall of 2009. (Incidentally, it was the same Show I got the pattern for my tiger project)

This piece was my not only my parents gift that Christmas, but its what got me back into crafting after many years of nothing.

The Japanese Kanji means "family" (or so the pattern claims, I've never checked), so it seemed appropriate. And it was a small enough project, so I thought I'd have time to do it in the 3 weeks or so that I had to get it done before I flew to the States for Thanksgiving. (It sounds impressive that I was going to have Christmas presents done by then, but really I was saving myself postage!)

I did get it done within that time, and even had enough time that I thought, you know, I could probably do a second one of these for my grandparents, but that's a story for another post.

I was a little annoyed with myself in that, somehow, I managed to get a little purple dot on it. It happened somewhere over the ocean as I was flying to the States. My guess is a drop of water managed to get into my sewing bag, which was out as I was desperately trying to get the version for my grandparents finished and had it all together.

I also wish that I'd gotten to Michaels earlier in the week so that I could get them to mount it properly so that when framed the piece wasn't so dark. But, parents liked it, so it can be considered a success.
